Permanent Makeup Before Your Big Event?

Updated: Nov 5

Weddings, engagement parties, galas, and so on are pretty important events, and of course we want to look our best. But should we get permanent makeup just a few days before the event?

Every now and then I get enquiries from lovely people wanting to get their eyebrow tattoo, lip blush or eyeliner tattoo done just a few weeks before their big day. Moments like this, there’s couple things you need to consider before booking your appointment:

1.Avoid the urge to try out all the new things

As we know weddings can be pretty stressful and some of us have the urge to try the things we’ve never tried before such as new haircuts, lash extensions, facials, permanent makeup, etc.

2 .Importance of timing

Overall I do recommend permanent makeup- it’s a game changer, however it’s all about the timing. You have to consider that it’s a cosmetic tattoo and you may experience some mild swelling and redness due to the application of the pigment and your brows may even appear darker, too. Once your brows heal, the swelling will go down and pigment will fade to your desired color. Healing takes time normally 4-5 weeks and touch-up is recommended 4-5 weeks after your initial appointment. So altogether you should leave 8-10 weeks for the whole process to be completed.

2 .Getting used to with your new brows

Another thing to consider is the shape of your brows. If the before and after are day and night, you might need some time to get used to with your new brow shape. Before tattooing, we always do a pre-sketch and draw them on to get your approval. If necessary we can adjust the shape to your liking and once everyone's happy we can start the process.

3 .Do your research

Do your research like you do with a makeup artist, florist or a photographer. Search for before and after photos, and also healed results. It’s important to remember that most of the pictures on social media are done straight after the tattooing, actual healed results vary- they’re lighter and less colour intense. Make sure you like the style of the artist, I always recommend booking in for a consultation first to discuss details of what can be accomplished.

To avoid unnecessary stress and still get fabulous brows, book in at least 3-5 months before your big day.
